Classroom Management Policies and Procedures
Miss Carnahan’s 3rd Grade
Room 205

Morning Routine/Work
  • Unpack backpack at desk
  •  Place backpack, lunchbox, and water bottle in cubby
  • Turn homework into the hanging files by Mrs. Hartshorn’s desk
  • Sharpen pencils and gather all supplies for the day
  • Return to desk and complete morning work


Entering the classroom
  •  Tuck shirts in and tie shoes before entering the classroom
  •  Walk in quietly and sit down immediately to await further instruction


Attention/Cues/Signals
  • Scholarly position
  • Class Class … clap and respond … and nonverbal cues (ie copying motions)
  • Archway Five


Heading on Papers
  • Top right corner: Name, number, date


Where Complete Papers Go
  • All papers are passed to the left and front of the room
  •  Collected papers are paper clipped and put into the basket


Where to Find Extra Copies of Papers
  • All extra papers will be placed in a purple drawer at the back. If a student needs to look for a handout, they may raise their hand or go during a transition period
  •  Handouts will be thrown away at the end of each unit


If a Student Finishes Early
  • Silently read a “for fun” book (kept in desk)
  • Organize desk
  • Finish other classwork
  • Take a paper from the finished early bin and work on it


Passing Out Papers
  • Teacher/Assistant passes papers to one person in row
  • Student job as paper passer


Keeping desk Orderly
  • All papers in folders or notebooks
  • All books and folders in neat stacks
  •  All school supplies in pencil box or pouch
  • No trash
  • 2 sharpened pencils


Check for Understanding
  • Thumbs up/thumbs down
  • Whiteboards


Finding and Working with Partners
  • Elbow partners (the person sitting next to them)


Pass Back Work
  •  I will hand students grades work back at the end of the week


Sharpening Pencils/Broken Pencils
  •  Keep 2 pencils in desk. It is the responsibility of the student to sharpen them each morning
  • No pencil sharpening during lessons. If both pencils are broken, raise both pencils in the air and I will dismiss you to trade them for sharp ones at the back of the room
  •  Extra pencils and broken pencils will be located by the sharpener at the back of the room


Using the Library
  • Students are encouraged to borrow books from the classroom library (please check out using the index cards on the check-out poster
  •  Place a review of a book atop the small bookshelf


Visitors
  • 1 greeter is designated a classroom job
  • Greeter: welcome all visitors to our class with your name and what we are studying


Classroom Jobs
  •  There will be 7 classroom jobs

o    Greeter
o    Line Leader
o    Door Holder
o    Paper Passer
o    Librarian
o    Messenger
o    Great Hearts Student of the Week

Classroom Expectations
  •  The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
  • Align your actions with Truth, Beauty, and Goodness
  •  Do not create a problem for yourself or anyone else. If there is a problem, I will do something.
